Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has won a contract of undisclosed value to provide the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s fleet of F-16C/D fighters with Sniper advanced targeting pods (ATP) from 2010.

Announced on 7 May, the deal will provide Block 52 F-16s with the same targeting pod as that selected for Singapore’s fleet of 24 Boeing F-15SG fighters, to be delivered from early next year. It also includes the provision of related equipment and an integrated logistics support package, says Lockheed.

“Sniper ATP will achieve seamless integration with no operational limitations on the F-16 Block 52 aircraft, and offers low-risk, high-performance and support cost savings,” the company claims.

Lockheed has so far secured production orders for the Sniper system from the US Air Force and Air National Guard, plus nine international customers.

First details of the RSAF’s new targeting pod contest emerged during February’s Singapore air show (two-seat F-16D pictured above at the event). The service has a total of 59 F-16C/Ds, according to Flight’s MiliCAS database.
