Strike action leads JAL to cancel over 100 flights

Japan Airlines (JAL) on 1 October is cancelling about a quarter of its flights because of a union strike.

The Oneworld carrier says in a statement that three of its unions plan to go on strike the day after tomorrow so that day it plans to cancel up to 152 domestic flights, representing 24% of its domestic schedule, plus four flights will be delayed.

"No international flights will be affected by the strike," it says.

The JAL Flight Crew Union, JAL Cabin Crew Union and JAL Japan Pilots Union plan to go on strike that day, says JAL.

"The three unions are in negotiations with JAL Group management discussing a variety of issues including the proposed reform of the wages system," it adds.
