PARIS AIR SHOW: British Army Elbit Systems Hermes 450 in Afghan near miss

A British Army Elbit Systems Hermes 450 unmanned air vehicle had a near miss with a Boeing CH-47 Chinook while on operations in Afghanistan, Flight Daily News can reveal.

Refusing to confirm when the near miss occurred or where in Afghanistan British Army Royal Artillery 32 regiment, 42 battery commander Matt Moore showed video of the near miss, as seen by his UAV's camera, at the Hanson Wade A&D Forum Unmanned Air Systems '09 conference.

"The UAV was one of mine...waiting to come into land," says British Army Royal Artillery 32 regiment, 42 battery commander, Matt Moore. In the video, the helicopter, carrying an underslung load, comes into the left side of the frame, growing larger before it changes direction. Moore indicated that the near miss was the fault of the Chinook pilot and that after the event discussions were had about improving air space management.
