April 2008 Archives

FlightBlogger's latest extravaganza is a photo fest (courtesy of Charles Conklin) of two Boeing Dreamliner 787s, which came out to play, albeit briefly, in Everett last Friday.

Not one, not two, but three blog posts cover the day in epic photographic detail ...

We also have the images in the AirSpace 787 photo gallery so you're spoilt for choice!

Flight's e-newsletters are something we're pretty pleased with. They're good products, have good sign up rates and fantastic open rates.

So it's a logical decision to expand the porfoilio to cover more targeted sectors of the industry.

Hence we're launching the new Flight Defence e-newsletter.

It's a free fortnightly email update which, like our other e-newsletters, brings you the latest news and analysis from the global aerospace defence sector direct to your inbox.

The newsletter features content from Flight International and flightglobal.com and is written by Flight's expert team of defence analysts and journalists.

In this newsletter you can:

  • Learn what is happening in the defence sector with all the latest defence news stories
  • Keep up-to-date with what's hot and most popular in the aerospace defence industry
  • Get details of the most recent defence events taking place around the world
  • Find out about the latest aviation jobs available in the defence sector
  • Read defence related blogs and become part of the Flight community
  • Take advantage of promotional opportunities offered to recipients of Flight Defence e-newsletter

Flight International issue 15-21 April

As protesters follow the path of the Olympic torch so spotters have been following the contrails of the Air China A330 which was used to transport it. Flightglobal.com has an image of the aircraft seen at London’s Heathrow.

See more images of the Lufthansa Boeing 737 that was struck by lightning plus an image of Monarch’s air stewardesses dressed up in the garb worn in 1968 as the airline celebrated its 40th birthday recently. And there’s also an image of the first ever Airbus A320 to be assembled in Germany. Usually the aircraft is built in France.

Why not join in any one of the discussion on AirSpace’s forums. One thread attracting a lot of opinion comes from the announcement that the 787 is suffering further delays.

Flightglobal.com hosts two games including the Take-off Challenge and the topical Terminal 5 chaos where you can help “Wee Willie Walsh” solve the baggage crisis.

And why not nominate your favourite engine, aircraft, person or moment in aviation as we celebrate 100 years of publishing in the 100 Greatest area in AirSpace.

A Flightglobal fan (Richard Vandervord) sent in a snap from the 6th April at Heathrow of an Air China Airbus A330-200 B-6075 which is currently ferrying the Olympic torch around the globe (presumably hotly pursued by protestors trying to put the thing out).

We've uploaded the picture to the AirSpace Airline New Schemes gallery which features lots of other interesting liveries.

Flight International issue 8-14 April

Flight celebrated the RAF’s 90th anniversary last week by taking a look into our 100 year archives and found the original document outlining the creation of the permanent Royal Air Force by Winston Churchill, then Secretary of State for Air, and stories documenting the RAF's finest hour during the Battle of Britain in World War Two.

Flight’s webmaster Andrew Costerton took a flight in Chinook helicopter, Bravo November or "BN" as it is known. The twin-rotor helicopter has recently undergone an extensive service. She was the sole survivor of six Chinooks that were sent to the South Atlantic at the start of the Falklands Conflict in 1982 and is currently serving in Afghanistan.

Flightglobal went to Hamburg to discover the latest thinking on the future of aircraft cabins at the Aircraft Interiors EXPO last week. See innovative designs and seat configurations including theatre-type seats that fold as you stand up to let your fellow passenger get by so you don’t clog up the aisle.

Take a look at the AirSpace gallery of images of seat configurations plus videos showing demonstrations of how seats smoothly recline into a flat bed and Airbus showcases its new A350 XWB cabin.

Jon Ostower has posted part one of comprehensive feature he's been working on.

It's based on a flight he took with Honeywell and Gulfstream back in early February.

He was invited to participate in an in-flight demonstration of the next generation in aviation situational awareness.

Part One is an overview of the Gulfstream flight deck.

Obviously on Flightglobal we’d never dream of doing anything as foolish as an April Fool’s Day story but other websites aren’t so discerning.

He’s a few choices ones that I’ve come across this morning:

Virgle

Google and Virgin Group today announced the launch of Virgle Inc., a jointly owned and operated venture dedicated to the establishment of a human settlement on Mars

Rynabare.com

Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, today launched a brand new website to tap into the X rated market, the internet's fastest growth area.

Flying penguins - BBC

Film maker and writer Terry Jones discovers a colony of penguins, which are unlike any other penguins in the world, in a promotional trail for BBC iPlayer.
