Record levels of snow, the worst to hit the UK in 18 years last week brought travel chaos to large parts of the country. The snow and ice caused a Cyprus Airways A330 to skid off the taxiway at Heathrow airport and was the subject for our Image of the Day Blog.
See an image of a single P&W Hornet 'Radial' engine on a Granville Gee Bee R-6H. It was taken circa 1930 and you can find this and a whole gallery of other historical 1930s civil aircraft on AirSpace.
Mary Kirby vlogs for us on her specialist subject of IFE. US Airways is looking at LiveTV's live television system, in addition to Lumexis' fibre-to-the-screen system. Remember LiveTV also currently offers a basic connectivity solution.
See an image of an "escape slide" attached to an aircraft. It's not the most practical of devices but seeing as the aircraft is stationary it's at least fun. There's also a great image taken from an aircraft flying over the smouldering Mount Redoubt in Alaska which may erupt in the next couple of days or weeks and could cause damage to aircraft overhead on the flightpath.
Stephen Trimble, in his DEW Line blog, has ignited a discussion from a commentary piece seen at Defpro.com, a networking site for defence industry types.
He says: "The headline [of the piece to which he refers] is phrased politely as a question, but the text is a stinging and informed argument against the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. There have been many arguments against the multi-national jet -- with few public rebuttals from its muzzled supporters, who don't wish to the dilute their F-22 argument -- but few have had the rhetorical strength and factual analysis as this piece."
