FlightBlogger questions the authenticity of the image of a merged airline livery taken by a cell phone camera and posted on Flickr.

It looks as though it shows "the first United/Continental merged livery in the flesh. It is believed that a Continental 737-900ER (N53442) is the first to receive the new merged colors and by the looks of that photo, it certainly is a -900ER. What do you think?"

See the picture accompanying the story about the unveiling of Poland's first modernised PZL-130 Orlik trainer, dubbed the Orlik TC-II.

The aircraft features a Pratt & Whitney PT6-25C engine, which replaces its original Walter M601T, plus new wings, Garmin avionics and rearranged cockpit instruments.

A British team proved flapless flight is possible with the Demon UAV, an adapted BAE Systems Eclipse. It flew with its flight control surfaces deactivated during a portion of the flight to test a new aerodynamic circulation control system.

The DEW Line has a funny video showing how a Japanese P-3C kills a Chinese or possibly North Korean submarine, by using mini vehicles operated by children and AirSpace user apgphoto has uploaded images to his gallery of the Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race, the oldest balloon race which was launched for the first time from the UK.

Ever considered wearing your luggage to avoid paying to put your bags in the hold? A UK department store is selling big coat with lots of pockets so passengers can do just that.

"They are putting the new trend down to reports from the shop floor that customers prefer to pack heavier items such as books, towels, electronic net books and cameras, into large pocketed garments, rather than pay fees up to £40 return, charged by some low-cost airlines for cases stowed in the hold, according to an Airline Business blog post.

In Flight's 5 September issue we reported in the weekly column War in the Air that Berlin and London had been heavily bombed. We wrote: "The chief damage which the [Luftwaffe] did was to injure St.Giles' Church, Cripplegate, where John Milton is buried. One bomb knocked the statue of the poet off its pedestal, but did not damage it seriously.

"The incident aroused indignation, not only here, but also in the United States. Milton, like Shakespeare, is a common heritage of the English-speaking world."
