Week on the Web (3-9 November)

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

See video images from an airport surveillance camera capturing the Sudanese Boeing 707 crash during take-off from Sharjah Airport last week, and watch closely for a falling object, to the left of the screen, shortly before the jet came down.

There are some great videos from last week's NBAA including a tour of the Bombardier Learjet 85's flightdeck and Honeywell's "Tube of Rock" demonstrating how passengers can enjoy HD films, use their iPod and play against their fellow passengers with Play Station games.

Defence editor Craig Hoyle posted a picture story about Pakistan's first of five Saab 2000-based airborne early warning and control aircraft. It has entered final system testing in Sweden, with the work having already demonstrated the capabilities of its integrated self-protection equipment.

FlightBlogger posted an amusing video of singing animals promoting Frontier Airlines that he guarantees will bring a smile to your face.

And the ANA Boeing 787, without engines, was paraded on the Everett flight line last week. Only the tail is painted leaving FlightBlogger wondering whether ANA is getting a new and/or special livery for its first 787?

Is it just me or did GiFAS (organisers of the Paris Air Show) rip off the logo from our big anniversary campaign - Flightglobal's 100 Greatest - for this year's 100 anniversary show website?

Flight International issue 23 - 29 June

This week was the 100th Paris Air Show covered as ever by Flightglobal. But this year we did things a little differently.

Exhibitors visited our chalet to see our multimedia studio in operation and were greeted by the sight of our journalists interviewing the newsmakers and giving their take on the news gathered at the show.

Mary Kirby and Jon Ostrower make a great double act as they sum up each day's news and notable events at the show. See Mark Pilling and David Kaminski-Morrow as they evaluate the Sukhoi Superjet which was showcased at the static and aerial displays.

There are plenty of CEO interviews from the show including Qatar Airways' Al Baker who last week warned Boeing that it would lose out to Airbus if it delayed the 787 any further.

See our Paris gallery on AirSpace hosting images from the aerial displays taken by AirSpace user apgphoto and take a look at our gallery of images of Paris Grand Palais and Le Bourget from days gone by.

Scroll through our interactive Paris timeline showing the iconic moments from the show over the last century.

If you're visiting the Paris Air Show this year and make it over to the Flightglobal chalet, then you'll have a very different experience to the fine dining and business meetings of the past.

Visitors will be treated to an in-depth overview of our multi-media operation at the show, with a working newsroom and clusters of plasma screens showing our editorial coverage taking shape in real time.

The Flightglobal media lounge is an exciting milestone in show reporting, featuring unprecedented levels of integration between our print and online publications.

The clear advantage is in making full use of our expert journalists across the entire Flightglobal portfolio, which includes Flight Daily News, Flight International, Airline Business and a suite of premium products such as Air Transport Intelligence, ACAS and Commercial Aviation Online.

It's also a chance for us to show the industry how we operate, how we use modern technologies such as social media and the degree of professionalism with which we approach our online publications."

Visitors to the show are welcome to drop in on the chalet D220.

For anyone into meeting random strangers in foreign bars, Stefan the Pilot (+ members of the Flightglobal team) are arranging a TweetUp in Geneva for EBACE air show attendees.

Stefan and friends will be in Les Brasseurs bar near the train station in Geneva town centre from 8.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday 12th May).

If you fancy doing some networking, chatting about business aviation and meeting the guys and girls of Flight, come along and we'll buy you a beer.

Look out for a 12 inch-high pilot in a snazzy uniform with smouldering good looks ...

Also if you're into following us on Twitter - we're all using the #EBACE to accompany our Tweets from the show.

Obviously Flightglobal will be all over this year's Paris Air Show like a rash, but we're also doing a bunch of stuff in preparation for the 100th year of the show.

A couple of the latest gems to go live include some cool Paris Air Show accounts from the Flight 100 Year Archive:

Paris Air Show through the ages

Elsewhere we're in the process of compiling the best image collection of historical Paris Air Shows on the web:

The gallery is 100+ images strong at the moment and growing as fast as we can scan the old photos in!

But we also need your help to identify and tag the images ...

Flight's Jeff Decker grabs an exclusive interview with movie legend Harrison Ford, who was visiting the NBAA air show in Orlando:
