Battle of Britain hero Wing Commander Peter Ayerst stands in front of Rolls-Royce's Spitfire PR Mk XIX during Flight's 100th Anniversary party.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and Supermarine Spitfire were both in the top ten of Flight's 100 Greatest.
