This genuine Douglas DC-2 is painted in the scheme of KLM depicting aircraft PH-AJU Uiver (Stork) which was entered in the October 1934 MacRobertson Air Race between London and Melbourne. Out of the 20 entrants, it finished second behind only the purpose built DH88 racer Grosvenor House. During the total journey time of 90 h 13 min, it was in the air for 81 h 10 min, and won the handicap section of the race.

I am pleased to inform you that I am the author of this picture shot on 8th October 2007 over the western Swiss countryside. Raymond Oostergo was crew chief of he DC-2 on this flight Geneva-Amsterdam. I shot quite a series of pictures from a Yak-52 base at Bex aerodrome. We had a phone briefing to arrange the air-to-air photo session with Raymond. You might add now Copyright Joe Rimensberger. Thanks + best regards.

    Hi Joe,

It’s quite serendipitous you found us, our blog, and your photo! It’s a great shot. I’ve added photo credit now. Happy snapping!

    Cheers,
    Will
