Today's image of the day comes from the Department of Defense:

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Christopher Malloy, landing support chief, Combat Logistics Battalion 46, observes as an MV-22 Osprey aircraft hovers above an M777 howitzer during an airlift operation at Landing Zone Sandhill at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., on July 10, 2009.

I live in beautiful Twentynine Palms, and we have been seeing Ospreys for a couple of weeks now, flying over town. I'm assuming they are transiting between MCAGCC and Camp Pendleton. They don't sound like helicopters or turboprops- kind of like a turboprop with a little fast-jet high pitch mixed in.

They wanted to see if the newer and heavier V-22s can lift those. More info on this crap at www.g2mil.com

I am the proud Mother of this fine Marine you are looking at in this picture, he was born to be a Marine. Your excellent work is paying off, for the protection of your fellow Marine's and your pride in your country.

Also, your Father is extremely proud to say, job well done, Son, from one SSGT to another SSGT.

Is this young man with the 2nd HET Company?
