Brazillan carrier Azul took delivery from Embraer last Thursday its latest E190 (its 23rd aircraft to its fleet) which was painted in pink to promote breast cancer awareness.
Embraer says women will exclusively crew the aircraft (see picture below). It adds the campaign launch coincides with the worldwide Pink October campaign against breast cancer. Embraer cites World Health Organization statistics that 12,000 women die annually in Brazil as a result of breast cancer.
Embraer Executive Vice President, Airline Market Paulo César de Souza e Silva says: "Our successful relationship with Azul goes far beyond a commitment to delivering and supporting the operation of new and modern jets. We are convinced that this type of action is necessary and demonstrates our social responsibility."
Azul joins a growing number of airlines with aircraft in special liveries promoting breast cancer awareness, including American Airlines, Delta, and QantasLink.
David Neelman, who founded JetBlue, is the chairman of Azul. He recently took a stake in Phenom 100 operator JetSuite.
