Having recently secured a multi-million cash boost from Etihad Airways - and probably made its immediate future safe - we're sure that Air Berlin, the carrier behind this festive Boeing 737-800, is celebrating the holiday period with an extra spring in its lederhosen. The aircraft ws snapped at Berlin Tegel earlier this month.

I've been looking for pictures of this Hello Kitty-themed Airbus A330-300 for a few weeks now and I can see it repelling as many as it draws in. Anyway, thank you to Taiwan's EVA Air for doing this, it's made the world a more day-glo place.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 gets a lot of bad press: programme delays, flight test woes, cost overruns, budget scrutiny... the list is depressingly long. All that, of course, obscures what a piece of work the JSF is. Now it's got a rare piece of good news with Japan's decision to pick it to replace its aging F-4 Phantom IIs. An interesting fact too: the F-35 has never lost a fighter contest it's been entered into. So, by way of celebration, here's a shot of the Lightning II with its older, illustrious namesake, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning.

A sad day in aviation history yesterday (no, not Southwest's order for the 737 Max) as the final Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor rolled off the manufacturer's Marietta, Georgia production line. The fifth-generation fighter has been in production since 1997.

And there I was thinking the aircraft orders might start calming down before Christmas... still, it's only a $19 billion order for a total of 208 aircraft and is the first firm order for the 737 Max and the largest firm order in Boeing's history... not much happening really.... still, here's how the 737 Max will look in Southwest's livery.

I apologise for the gap in my knowledge, but it's not a term I've come across before, but the US Air Force describes these Lockheed Martin F-16s as being in "elephant walk" formation (big, grey and cumbersome?). So anwers on a postcard please... Nonetheless, the pic is an interesting one. It shows F-16 Fighting Falcons from the USAF's 8th and 419th Fighter Wings demonstrating the aforementioned "elephant walk" formation as they taxi down a runway during an exercise at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea earlier this month.

This little gem from Lockheed Martin shows an F-35B parked at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base with a C-130 of the US Navy's Blue Angels coming in to land in the background. The C-130 crew came to Forth Worth to collect Lockheed Martin's donation of toys for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots programme.

Flybe has taken delivery of the first two Embraer 175s from a 35 unit order dating from July 2010 - registrations G-FBJA and G-FBJC. They are pictured enjoying the traditional water arc welcome at Exeter airport last week. The aircraft are currently being positioned to start revenue service from 7 December at Manchester and Birmingham airports.
