Thank Phuket, it's Friday

Gorgeous photograph this one, featuring a Boeing 747 operated by Thai Airways International at Phuket airport in Thailand. The picture was taken by AirSpace contributor ApisitiJ. Flightglobal's Ascend database records the airline as operating 16 of the passenger jets, with a further two converted to freighters.phuket747.jpg

Nice picture - and indeed, sentiment - on our AirSpace forum from regular Hounddogone of British Airways' "Firefly" a specially liveried Airbus A319 which was used to transport the Olympic torch to London prior to the games last year.

Another great picture from AirSpace regular Hounddogone, this time of an Emirates Airbus A380 on a damp take-off roll at London Heathrow.

Turkish delight for Boeing

To coincide with today's big news that Turkish Airlines is to order up to 95 Boeing 737s (and also to enable me to use this puntastic headline) here's a brilliant shot of a Turkish Airlines 737-900ER from AirSpace user Martin Needham.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the iconic Airbus narrowbody, here's a picture of the very first A320, taken at Düsseldorf after it completed its first revenue service from Paris.

Retrotastic Viscount

To my mind a Viscount will forever be a small chocolate-covered biscuit in a green and silver wrapper, but clearly this Vickers-built airliner offers a different standpoint. The image of the Air Rhodesia Vickers Viscount 700D, captured in Salisbury in the 1970's, was posted on our AirSpace gallery by user flyvertosset.

American and US Airways - together at last

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
I found this cracking image on the AirTeamImages website while looking for a shot to illustrate the merger between American Airlines and US Airways. Showing a pair of Boeing 757-200s it's just about perfect for the task.

It may be a turboprop, but it still looks nice

Turboprops are never going to get as much love as other aircraft types. They lack the scale of an A380, the excitement of a jet fighter or the potential for battery-induced blazes of a 787. Nonetheless, this picture from ATR of the first delivery of an ATR 72-600 to Myanmar's Air KBZ may go someway to redressing that balance.

To accompany this lovely picture posted on our AirSpace gallery, here's the accompanying caption from contributor EnoAeroPics: "The sun finally broke through in the late afternoon of 7 November 2012 when Boeing 747-406BC c/n 30455 (l/n 1302) PH-BFY "City of Johannesburg" of KLM lifted off runway 06-24 at Schiphol Amsterdam airport. The aircraft first flew on 30 March 2002 as N6005C and  was delivered to KLM on 10 April 2002." More of their images here.
