Pictured on a pre-delivery test flight from Seattle's Paine Field, here's a shot from Flightglobal's AirSpace gallery of Lufthansa's first Boeing 747-8I (D-AGYA) in its full livery. Handover of the aircraft is due in March.

In a passing nod to the er... passing of the Boeing 747 from Singapore Airlines' fleet, here's a picture from Flightglobal's AirSpace gallery of Boeing's 1,000th 747. The Pratt & Whitney PW4000-powered aircraft was delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1993 as 9V-SMU and carried out sterling years of service for the carrier until 2010. It underwent freighter conversion in 2011 and is currently, at least according to our Ascend Online database, plying its trade for Southern Air as N400SA.

Spanish carrier Air Nostrum has taken delivery of its 75th Bombardier aircraft - a CRJ1000 - at a ceremony in Mirabel, Canada. It follows previous deliveries of nine CRJ1000s (part of an order for 35 of the type), 11 CRJ900s, and 35 CRJ200 regional jets, as well as 19 Q300 turboprops. It's one of just two customers for the CRJ1000, whose backlog - as of 31 October - stood at 32 aircraft (which is now at least down to 28). The overall CRJ backlog, meanwhile, was a dwindling 52 aircraft.

Much as the title suggests, really, given that the big news today is AA's woes. Having flown with the troubled carrier yesterday - five hours on a Boeing 737-800 - here's a shot of a 777 taxiing at London Heathrow 27L.

And the lucky carrier to take the 100th airplane is Tajikistan-based Somon Air. So far the 737-900ER has racked up 414 orders from 16 customers. The 737-900ER is the longest 737, typically carrying 180 passengers in a two-class layout with an exit limit certified for up to 220 passengers in a single-class configuration. This is the airline's second 737-900ER, both with the Boeing Sky Interior, and is its sixth aircraft, all from Boeing.

With the news that Airbus is to consign its four-engined A340 to the sales scrapheap, here's an entirely apt image of an A340 heading off into the sunset. In this case, it's an A340-500 operated by Singapore Airlines on the way into LAX.

Russian carrier Aeroflot is poised to deploy its third Sukhoi Superjet on international flights in the coming weeks having taken delivery of the aircraft recently. It's a bit grainy but you've got to love this night shot of the Superjet.
