MAS takes delivery of 100th A380

You may think it ugly, you may think it looks like a whale with wings, but others believe the A380 super jumbo has its own special beauty (possibly the sort that requires a stiff drink to fully appreciate). Anyway, to mark the 100th delivery Airbus has released these images showing it looking particularly well turned out in MAS livery.

It may be a turboprop, but it still looks nice

Turboprops are never going to get as much love as other aircraft types. They lack the scale of an A380, the excitement of a jet fighter or the potential for battery-induced blazes of a 787. Nonetheless, this picture from ATR of the first delivery of an ATR 72-600 to Myanmar's Air KBZ may go someway to redressing that balance.

Qatar Airways has received its first Dreamliner this week, but visitors to the Farnborough airshow last summer had a preview. Here's Qatar Airway's Boeing 787 taking off from the Hampshire airfield.

20th 747-8 delivered to Panalpina (sort of)

From a shaky start Boeing is finally ramping up deliveries of its new jumbo. Today saw the 20th handover, with this example, a Freighter, destined for Atlas Air, on contract to global logistics firm Panalpina. This is the first time in Panalpina's history that an aircraft has been painted in the company's livery. Its first service will be between Everett and Hong Kong and then on to Luxembourg with cargo on board. Atlas Air has ordered nine 747-8 Freighters, two of which they will operate for Panalpina.

Courtesy of Boeing, here's a pic of yesterday's handover ceremony for Japan Airlines's first Boeing 787-8. I've no idea what the large glass shield is in front of the assembled guests - presumably to keep teh traditional Seattle weather at bay...

Pictured is the 1,000th 777 to roll off Boeing's Everett production line at a handover ceremony on Friday. Taken by Gulf airline Emirates, this particular example is a -300ER. The carrier has a fleet of 102 777s, with a further 93 on order.

Spanish carrier Air Nostrum has taken delivery of its 75th Bombardier aircraft - a CRJ1000 - at a ceremony in Mirabel, Canada. It follows previous deliveries of nine CRJ1000s (part of an order for 35 of the type), 11 CRJ900s, and 35 CRJ200 regional jets, as well as 19 Q300 turboprops. It's one of just two customers for the CRJ1000, whose backlog - as of 31 October - stood at 32 aircraft (which is now at least down to 28). The overall CRJ backlog, meanwhile, was a dwindling 52 aircraft.

AirAsia's 100th Airbus A320

Replete with dragon motif - to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Dragon - this Airbus A320, the carrier's 100th (registration - we think - 9M-AQM, although that's listed in our database as a 1972-vintage Boeing 737-200 that was parked in 2008) arrived in AirAsia's fleet earlier this week. According to the press bumf, it took a team of 1,000s of painters, a billion hours to complete it (although to be honest, I might have skimmed that bit).

Airbus is preparing to transport the first A350 upper wing-cover from Germany to the airframer's main wing facility in the UK.

It has loaded the upper cover, manufactured at its Stade plant, onto one of its A300-600ST freighters for transit to Broughton over the next few days. Continue reading...
