This striking image of a formation of four Italian air force Eurofighters being supported by a Lockheed Martin KC-130J tanker during a training flight was released by the consortium which manufactures the Typhoon. The same combination saw operational use last year, when Italy helped to enforce a UN-mandated no-fly zone around Libya.

Steve says of his photo:
To say it was a chance shot would be an understatement. I was closing down for the day, walking away from the field as the light conditions were fading fast, goodness knows why I turned to watch the aircraft doing a cross field run, put my bag down and started to shoot (Canon 5D, Canon EF 400mm IS USM lens). Shot off about 7 frames as the star burst exploded. The aircraft was operated by Naturelink (now absorbed into National Airways Corporation), was modified with the ECM (electronic counter measures) and was operating in Africa.

This week's Image of the Week (featured on page 3 of Flight International), is taken by AirSpace user mjc772 (Mike Chalmers). Mike calls his photo "Wild Things" after the three tail finds depicted on Frontier Airbus jets. In April parent company Republic Airways announced Frontier would be the surviving brand for Republic's operations, thus ending the Midwest Airlines name.
Mike says he's flown into Denver "quite a few times...and often admired the wildlife themed tailfins sported by Frontier Airlines' fleet of A3230s - in keeping with their base in the Rocky Mountains." He took this photo on 25 May.

Tony writes of the aircraft:
I saw these two Antanovs from the main road and just had to stop!During a later visit to Leszno this year, one of the [An-2s] was actually flying around the town centre of Leszno very low (200ft?) during some kind of private flying show at the gliding centre. I went back to the airfield, but we couldn't get in.There's a MIG15 at Poznan airport I want to shoot next time, also!
For those interested in more about the An-2, Tony has found a comprehensive history by a German enthusiast.
