Eva Air - more Hello Kitty lunacy

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

A press release from Taiwan's favourite carrier Eva Air stumbled this way the other day, announcing it was going to paint another two of its Airbus A330s in Hello Kitty livery and increase the number of destinations served by the jets. While I quite like Eva for the sheer eye-melting cuteness of it all, I'm not sure I'd ever want to travel on the Hello Kitty express - imagine the shrieking... Also note the attention to detail in painting the tug in a similar colour scheme. Lawks.

AirAsia's 100th Airbus A320

Replete with dragon motif - to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Dragon - this Airbus A320, the carrier's 100th (registration - we think - 9M-AQM, although that's listed in our database as a 1972-vintage Boeing 737-200 that was parked in 2008) arrived in AirAsia's fleet earlier this week. According to the press bumf, it took a team of 1,000s of painters, a billion hours to complete it (although to be honest, I might have skimmed that bit).

None more black: ANZ's latest 777

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

To borrow from Spinal Tap: How much more black could it be? None more black. It's Air New Zealand's latest Boeing 777-300ER (ZK-OKQ) resplendent in the All Black colour scheme sat next to a Beech 1900D turboprop belonging to Eagle Airways at Auckland. Could it be any more awesome? None more awesome.

Happy Christmas from (for?) Air Berlin

Having recently secured a multi-million cash boost from Etihad Airways - and probably made its immediate future safe - we're sure that Air Berlin, the carrier behind this festive Boeing 737-800, is celebrating the holiday period with an extra spring in its lederhosen. The aircraft ws snapped at Berlin Tegel earlier this month.

Hello Kitty!

I've been looking for pictures of this Hello Kitty-themed Airbus A330-300 for a few weeks now and I can see it repelling as many as it draws in. Anyway, thank you to Taiwan's EVA Air for doing this, it's made the world a more day-glo place.

No cats were harmed during its production. Probably.

ANA announced at the Paris air show today its first two Boeing 787 Dreamliners will be painted in a special scheme to celebrate the type's introduction.

The livery features a large "787" at the front of the aircraft and then blue lines at the rear of the fuselage "designed to highlight how the three core elements of the airline's service brand - innovation, uniqueness and the inspiration of modern Japan - operate across the ANA network", ANA says.

After of the 787 numbering is the carrier's logo, its Premium class logo, and then the Dreamliner logo.

ANA is due to receive its first 787 in August or September. It is the launch customer for the type with 55 aircraft on order.

KLM tiled 777.jpg

KLM has unveiled the Boeing 777-200 adorned with mini delft-style tiles created from people submitting their picture to the airline's project on Facebook. (Click on the image above for a larger and detailed look.)

In April KLM invited its Facebook fans to submit a profile picture to be featured on the fuselage of its 777 as part of its "Tile & Inspire" campaign.

KLM says it notified those whose delft-style tile it used, so if you submitted a tile but did not receive notification, better luck next time--whenever that will be, although airlines have periodically called on the public to help create special liveries. Such examples are Alaska Airlines calling for a sport-themed livery design and British Airways in 2005 covering a 747-400 with over 100,000 signatures supporting London's bid for the 2012 Olympics.
Qantas subsidiary QantasLink unveiled in Sydney today a Bombardier Q400 in a wildlife theme in support of the Taronga Western Plains Zoo and the carrier's commitment to promoting regional tourism. Taronga Zoo is located near Dubbo in New South Wales, approximately 400 km from Sydney.

The Q400, VH-QOW, features images of giraffes, rhinos, and grassland.

Brazillan carrier Azul took delivery from Embraer last Thursday its latest E190 (its 23rd aircraft to its fleet) which was painted in pink to promote breast cancer awareness.

Embraer says women will exclusively crew the aircraft (see picture below). It adds the campaign launch coincides with the worldwide Pink October campaign against breast cancer. Embraer cites World Health Organization statistics that 12,000 women die annually in Brazil as a result of breast cancer.

Embraer Executive Vice President, Airline Market Paulo César de Souza e Silva says: "Our successful relationship with Azul goes far beyond a commitment to delivering and supporting the operation of new and modern jets. We are convinced that this type of action is necessary and demonstrates our social responsibility."

Azul joins a growing number of airlines with aircraft in special liveries promoting breast cancer awareness, including American Airlines, Delta, and QantasLink.

David Neelman, who founded JetBlue, is the chairman of Azul. He recently took a stake in Phenom 100 operator JetSuite.

JAL Aloha Jet.jpg
The outlook at JAL may be bleak, but the carrier on 31 October will unveil this above 777-200 sporting a Hawaii-themed livery. Dubbed the "Aloha jet", the aircraft is a partnership with Hawaii State Tourism Bureau to promote JAL's routes to Hawaii, Pak's JAL Blog says.

The aircraft will primarily operate on domestic Japanese flights until 31 January 2011, according to Pak.
