Air shows always throw up humorous moments, and Tony Fernandes (front row left) saw the funny side of almost being denied access to the EADS/Airbus chalet during the Paris Air Show.
But he did recount his tale to a packed press conference, leaving a few Airbus execs wriggling uncomfortably in their seats
He was on his way to spend another $2.6 billion with Airbus (on A330s for its long-haul low-cost start-up AirAsia X) when he encountered an obstructive security guard at the manufacturer's chalet. Said guard was none too impressed with the efforts of Mr Fernandes to get in.
"I told the security guy on the door I had bought 200 aircraft from the company and he still would not let me through," said Fernandes.
Good sense did prevail of course and Tony got in, but for those familiar with the complete fiasco that accompanies simply getting into the Paris Air Show his experience will come as no surprise.
