Qatar has thrown the party to end all parties in New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, just off Broadway.
Qatar was obviously hoping for a glamour injection, with celebrities such as Donald Trump (check out that combover! He is pictured, top, centre, with his wife Melania, left, and actress Gayle King), Julianne Moore (pictured bottom right), Maggie Gyllenhaal and Chloe Sevigny in attendance. And no expense was spared with Andie MacDowell as master of ceremonies (pictured top and bottom left) and Diana Ross providing entertainment.
Qatar chief executive Akbar Al Baker (pictured top right, and with Gayle King, bottom, centre) looks like a child in a candy store as he poses with celebs. But it’s not just about pressing celebrity flesh – there was actually a serious purpose for the event - publicising Qatar’s new service from Doha to New York Newark.
“This week Qatar Airways made history when we touched down in the United States for the first time,” Al Baker said. “It marked the first step of the airline’s expansion into the US market.”
According to the press statement, the route represents “the highlight of Qatar’s route expansion during 2007”.
Other destinations already added in 2007 include Dar es Salaam, Lagos, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, Chennai and Geneva.
