Qatar branches into Sweden

Qatar Airways has become the only airline to fly from the Middle East to Stockholm. In fact it’s the only airline to fly from the Middle East to the entire Scandinavian region.
Flight QR091 arrived at Stockholm Arlanda International airport yesterday to, what the press release describes as “a red carpet ceremony and Swedish entertainment”. What constitutes Swedish entertainment?, you ask. Apparently a girl dressed as Pippi Longstocking presenting an Arabic translation of the Pippi Longstocking novel to Qatar’s chief executive Akbar Al Baker (see picture below).
QatarW450.jpgAl Baker flew in on the inaugural flight, presumably in one of the eight business class seats, rather than the 102 economy seats on the Airbus A319.
Al Baker said: “Stockholm, in particular, was chosen because of the huge amount of business and tourism interest in this wonderful scenic city and its surroundings. Our new flights will contribute to bridging links between two very different parts of the world.” The addition of Stockholm reinforced the airline’s strategy to serve key cities around the world, he added.
Stockholm follows New York, Washington, Geneva and Ho Chi Minh City as additions to Qatar’s network this year and is the airline’s 80th destination in total.
Qatar will operate four non-stop scheduled flights a week between Doha and Stockholm.
