Airlines tend not to make much PR fuss about asking the airframers for their best offers when preparing an order.
So I note this press release from Nigeria's Bellview Airlines with interest.
It already operates a few Boeing 737s and 767s and wants more - a lot more: narrowbodies, widebodies and 70-seat regional jets.
As the release, which I print in full below, states, the ultimate order could be for up to 58 aircraft.
Now I'll be honest, for when I received the note I first thought it was one of those letters one occasionally gets from Nigeria - you know what I am talking about don't you - from Prince something-or-other with a bank account that needs some of your expertise and money to access.
No, Habib Muhammed, corporate affairs in Lagos of Bellview seems deadly serious.

BELLVIEW ISSUE REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) TO AIRBUS, BOEING, BOMBARDIER AND EMBRAER FOR NEW FLEET
West and Central Africa's oldest privately owned schedule passenger airline, Bellview, based in Nigeria has issued Request for Proposal (RFP) for the order of ten single aisle A319/A320/ or B737-700/B737-800 aircraft and A350-900 or B787-900 wide body aircraft with options for ten additional single aisle aircraft and four wide body.
Both Airbus and Boeing will pitch for this order while Bombardier and Embraer will compete with C705 and E175 for twenty regional jets with options for ten more additional regional aircraft. Total order is 58 aircraft with options for delivery from 2009 up till 2020.

Bellview currently operates an all Boeing fleet of four B737-200 and two B767-200 with schedule service to fourteen African Cities, Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Banjul, Conakry, Dakar, Douala, Freetown, Johannesburg, Kano, Lagos, Monrovia, Port Harcourt, Libreville and London.
The RFP will make
Bellview recently raised close to US$1Billion (One Billion US Dollars) in equity. The new fleet will be funded with a mixture of equity and ECA backed credit.
The management of the airline confirmed that "Bellview look forward to exciting aircraft selection process. This is the best time to buy aircraft and we are determined to explore new aircraft availability to the maximum."
