Virgin unveils its new colours

Earlier today Virgin Atlantic unveiled its new livery, which, to the untrained eye, looks not a huge amount different to the old livery.

New livery July 2010 wing tip.JPGBut, in Virgin's own words, here's what's new:

"The Virgin Atlantic name, previously on the front end of the fuselage is now emblazoned large across the whole of the aircraft in a fine custom drawn font. In addition, the undercarriage of the aircraft now features the new Virgin Atlantic logo in dark purple - making the aircraft more easily identifiable when taking off and landing.  The winglets are now red with the Virgin script on the inner side, visible to passengers on board the plane. The iconic, flag carrying flying lady, who appears on all Virgin Atlantic aircraft, has been rejuvenated with a subtle cosmetic makeover and enhanced detailing - now fluttering a larger Union Jack."

So now you know. Here's the (corrected!!) old livery for comparison and another pic here - thanks to DC Spotter and Scoreboard for your feedback (see comments below).

Actually, the current livery (adopted in 2006) is this:

so the change is only the font and size of the titles.

The one shown on the 747 at the bottom of the article http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/airline-business/assets_c/2010/07/hr_747400_15%20(small)-84221.html was adopted in 1999

Actually your "old" Virgin livery is two steps back - see the link for the last version, which had already dropped the purple accent around the tail.

Interesting that they have also dropped the claim to be "Britain's Flag Carrier"

I like the changes.. Is the whole fleet painted with the new look, or it will start painting now?

Hi Caio,
Thanks for your comment. Virgin hasn't re-painted the whole fleet yet - that usually happens as the aircraft go in for routine maintenance work - but their Boeing 747-400 registered G-VROC is already decked out in the new livery. They don't give an indication about when the whole fleet will be in the new colours. Virgin is on Twitter (@VirginAtlantic), so I'll ask the question for you through my @VictoriaOnAir account.
Best wishes,
Victoria
