Hungary's Malév appoints new media chief

Via the promptings of oneworld PR supremo Michael Blunt I can report that one of the alliance's newer members (it joined in 2007), Hungary's Malév has appointed Marta Rona as communications director.

The experienced professional arrived from Omnicom Media Group's Hungarian subsidiary, one of the biggest media agencies worldwide.

At OMG she worked as trading and media director. At Malév she is in charge of the internal, national and international communications of the company.

Back in 2007 when it joined oneworld, Malév hoped membership would help it breakeven in a couple of years.

That hasn't happened. Currency fluctuations and the ash cloud crisis have dampened its results and it made a loss in the first half of 2010.

We'll watch with interest as Marta communicates the hoped for turnaround in the airline's fortunes.
