Israel Aerospace Industries expands Brazilian footprint

Israel Aerospace Industries is expanding its presence in Brazil.

European Advanced Technology has acquired a minority holding in São Paulo-based Avionics Service as part of the IAI subsidiary’s strategic expansion into the Brazilian defence market.

IAI has also signed a co-operation agreement with Avionics Service to conduct activities in the Brazilian defence market including marketing and manufacture of aircraft systems, unmanned air systems, sensors and upgrades of aerial platforms. The agreement is targeting defence and public security projects primarily in the Brazilian market, but these could be extended to international markets in future.

Avionics Service provides solutions for projects involving equipment and avionics systems for civil and military fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, as well as simulators. It is defined as a strategic defence company (Empresa Estrategica de Defesa) – a unique status granted by the Brazilian defence ministry, and is also active in the international market.

In recent years, IAI has expanded its activities in Brazil and established IAI do Brasil, with its marketing headquarters in Brasilia. It has also invested in IACIT, a Brazilian radar company based in São José dos Campos, and co-operates with other key companies in the Brazilian defence market.

Joseph Weiss, IAI’s president and chief executive, said Brazil is a strategic market for the Israeli company  “We intend to expand our activities in this important region. Our investment and co-operation with Avionics Service are an expression of our ongoing commitment to support the Brazilian customers.”
