While writing an article about actor and pilot Morgan Freeman's recent monumental crosscountry flight in his brand new Emivest SJ30 business jet, I stumbled upon one of his other true loves - Blues music.
The trail started with a need to know the tail number of Freeman's plane.
I learned from Emivest that his promotion tour for the movie Invictus, in which he plays South African leader Nelson Mandela, ended in Clarksdale, Mississippi, which is widely known as Freeman's home.
A search through the FAA registration number site showed only one SJ30 aircraft (searched by model name) registered in Mississippi, and better yet, in the same location as Freeman's home.
That aircraft's tail number is N30GZ. GZ? Since actors have been known to display vanity tags,I figured the "Gulf Zulu" letters must mean something. But what?
A picture on the Emivest web site and a quick Google search provided the answers...
Ahhh! GZ = Ground Zero = A blues music club that Freeman co-owns in Clarksdale, Miss. and other locations.
The "30"? I'm guessing it stands for SJ30. Just a hunch :-)
