James Leap is director general of WWF International and the sort of reasonable voice that the air transport industry likes to do business with.
He encourages: more sophisticated avionics; more efficient ground operations; fleet renewal; and Single European Sky - all high on everyone's wishlist, so that's OK. But he also wants to see more use of high-speed rail and videoconferencing which are rather lower down the list for most delegates.
More importantly, he has little faith in ICAO as an effective forum to come up with a global emissions trading mechanism (hardly alone in that). Understandably, he's backing the European Union initiative. "We have got to get going and Europe is a good place to start," he declares. "I understand the concerns but we do not have time to wait for each other."
