Like the computer games which use essentially the same technology, at least in part, simulation-based training has come a long way in a decade. Today's civil simulators offer an almost entirely realistic flying experience, both in terms of what you see in the cockpit and out the window...and, thanks to advances in motion and audio technology, what you feel and hear.

This week's issue of Flight International (12 April) has a special feature package on civil simulation, covering everything from advances in the computer-generated flying environment to the sort of training aspiring suborbital flyers are doing to prepare for the pressures of the edge of space experience.
