Forest fires are one of the great environmental scourges of our time, the terrible consequences of which have been felt in, among others, Australia and Israel in recent years. In the 7 June issue of Flight International we look at the latest technologies and tactics being deployed by aerial firefighters and our journalists visit waterbombing specialists in Canada, Australia and Israel.

The issue also has a detailed analysis of the report into the AF447 Airbus A330 crash in the mid-Atlantic. Our comment piece examines the two key questions that arise from the report: one concerning icing awareness, the other whether increasing cockpit automation is eroding traditional flying skills and the harmony between pilot and machine.
