When Washington DC-based Edward Russell found himself stranded by a low-cost carrier in Mexico, he decided to take a deeper look at what happens when an airline makes a significant schedule change less than 24h before departure. He explains on The Airline Business blog how his experience with Volaris in this instance left him with a “higher regard for one of Mexico’s budding LCCs”. Meanwhile, on his blog David Learmount provides a first look at the 2013 airline accident figures and concludes that “the good news is that passenger survivability is outstanding”. The not so good news, he explains, is that the zero or low fatality rate on crashes such as those of Lion Air and Asiana could be distorting “real safety issues”.
