Look and read carefully, or you'll miss the point here on this cartoon circulating the web describing rather succinctly the current fortunes of Boeing and Airbus.

I think I remember Boeing questioning whether it should stay in the commercial buisiness after a failed sonic cruiser, two controversial CEO's and losing the order race to airbus for several years...
Basically, things change. We'll see who ahead in a year or two

I don't understand why people keep on talking about: Boeing is better than the rest...
Both Boeing and Airbus are great companies, which both have produced great aircraft, with good and bad aspects... If the two companies would work together, they could make the best planes, this world has ever seen.
Imagine the kinda regional aircraft you get, when you take the fly-by-wire, the engines and the gear of an Airbus A320 and combine it with the fuselage and the wings of a Boeing 737-800. You could adapt the cockpit of the A320, but put a yoke instead of sidesticks and make the fly-by-wire flexible like in the Boeing 777. If both companies used their resources to make better composites for the materials and make all aircrafts with similair cockpits, you could save alot of money thanks to reduced weight, easier schooling of new pilots and a lower fuel usage.
Efficiancy is what both companies want. Think about that, instead of saying bad things about either companies...

the problem with both companys coming together like that. . . is competition. boeing and airbus are the only two competitors for the airline commercial market. though i agree that together they would have the ability to make some real great aircraft, the problem is the competition that drives the quality of airlines would be gone. . . and that would spell some bad news for the passengers. . .
