How to avoid traffic chaos in Dubai

Dubai is renowned for year round sunny climes, a tax-free status and lifestyle benefits including, as standard, a gym and a pool on the roof of your apartment building.

But what they don't tell you about Dubai is that it is riddled with daily traffic chaos. This is no fun, especially in the heat, even though the cars have air conditioning.

Commuters fed up spending hours crawling along Dubai's increasingly congested roads could soon be taking to the air in an effort to avoid the jams.

Dubai Taxi Company plans to start a helicopter taxi service for VIP travellers by 2009.
Initially, only VIPs would be able to use the service, but there are plans to make it available for everyone.

Dubai is a fabulous venue for an exhibition so just a note of warning - during major exhibitions, traffic is frustratingly slow as delegates in taxis hog the road along with the city's commuters and with Dubai Air Show soon upon us (11-15 November) you might just wish the air taxi service had already taken off.

Dubai is a wonderful city, and like other cities, its chronic transport woes are being addressed a lot quicker than say, London or New York.

The Dubai Air Show too will be a unique one, not least because the next show in 2009 will move to a custom arena near JXB International Airport.
