Real or fake? Fly low fighter jet and no flinching

| | Comments (12) | TrackBacks (0) |

So many questions arise from this video. It can't be real. Can it? There's no dust. And anyway, which aircraft is it?

Some say it's a Mirage, others say a Harrier, and a Super Hornet is another suggestion.

Let us know your thoughts....

It's a mirage F-1 alright, but I'd imagine his clothes to be rippling in the wake (and at least some kind of shock) so I'm gonna call a fake here.

Definitely a Mirage F1. The high-mounted wings rule it out as a F/A-18. While the Harrier does have a high wing, if you look at the video, you'll see a centerline mounted fuel tank which the Harrier does not have. So the only possible aircraft is the F1, although the Jaguar is also a possibility.

Looks like a Mirage F1 to me, probably filmed in Chad. Compare to this video:-

Why do you all persist in posting these OMG!!WTF!!ISITREAL!! items that make you look dim?

The internet is collapsing under the weight of amazing French-air-force-low-flying-in-Chad-or-someplace-else videos and five seconds of research would have shown that this is just one of them.

Anyone in your office who can't tell this is a Mirage F1 needs to be the shown the door.

You know, this week's issue was a whopping 26.5 editorial pages – eight of which were a SPECIAL REPORT ON MRO. Instead of worrying about your web hit stats (and proving you don't know a lot about your core subject) shouldn't someone in there start paying a bit more attention to the stuff that matters?

hi all , well guessed it is indeed in Chad.
as the legend said it was a gamble beetween the pilot and the man on the runway.it is quite a daredevil gamble , but after all...

Hello Airpower
Flightglobal is broad in its content so that there is something for everyone. Not everyone is knowledgeable about the type of aircraft in the video you mention. I was simply opening the floor for lighthearted debate. And I grant you, not everyone wants to know about MRO, but we aim to cater to all tastes.
Best regards

Real!!, not too shabby but not as good as Whizz's Corolla in Oman, It suffered a terminal Jaguar strike. Whizz was lucky as he glanced in his rearview mirror just before impact. The Jag landed safely the pilot left the country the next day.

Are we 100% sure this is a Mirage F! - intakes look too square?? Could be a Soko J22 Orao.

Thats some bull. If the plane barely missed him the engines would knock him down.

SEPECAT Jaguar.

This is not a Jaguar. Jaguar has square air intakes and stabilizers with negative dihedral. Most extreme low flying videos are French, so I vote for Mirage F1.

It would seem to be fake or adjusted for two reasons. 1) At this kind of speed, the plane would be well ahead of it's sound, but in the video, you hear the plane's sound peak as it passes - doesn't sound right. 2) The cameraman (crouching?) gets jet blasted but not the guy standing? Maybe he has velcro on his shoes?

Interesting stuff though, maybe should be added to the arsenal of attractions at Disney?
