Bend at the knees!
I'm told video will be available tomorrow. Testing began this past weekend.

From Boeing:
Gear swing tests replicate the extension and retraction of the landing gear, as they would function on a regular flight. Successfully swinging the landing gear into a stowed position and back down into a landing position verifies the installation and functionality are working as expected. The action is initiated from the flight deck and requires the integration of avionics, the common core system, the electrical power system, the hydraulic system and major airplane structure. Each of the three gear (nose gear, and main gear left and right) were tested independently and then jointly. Testing will continue in the days ahead.

Ok, very good, but now every single movement the B787 does is being posted on the net is loosing a bit of news value, IMHO.
What is interesting is that I can see installed brake units, so is it only a software issue that is "holding" the brakes, or will they have to be re installed with working sets?

Deceiving...not a single mention in this blog about any of the selections that were announced during this month about the suppliers that are going to manufacture the HTP, VTP and other components for the new airbus 350...reading this blog no longer keep me informed enough about this business...I'm going back to the printed press...

Well, last time I checked this was a 787 blog! What is it with people telling others what to do all the time? Start your own blog if you're so upset that Jon is writing about the 787 in particular.

This is a B787 site? That's new, I honestly was under the impression that it was an aviation observer's site. Bias is evident but I think Jon does a good job in letting everyone have his say. He has his preference for Boeing, and I respect that. Some other bloggers would send you away if you say the least thing against Plastic Fantastic.
I found not giving a decent write up for EK's first A380 flight inappropriate, but I cannot complain really.
Please Jon, don't go into the A vs B. I love a healthy discussion, keep it coming.

Hey guys,
FlightBlogger was never meant to be just 787, but it has been weighted that way for a while. First, off it's the only major aircraft in this phase of development right now, so as A350 really gets going, there will be a big transition. I really don't have a personal (or professional) preference for Airbus or Boeing, but I'm a US correspondent for Flight, so Boeing is my area of coverage.
As for the EK A380 flight, I've been editing footage from the last two days from the inaugural A380 flight from DXB-JFK. I wasn't on board, but a colleague of mine was and we've been working together to get the video out. I'm expecting quite a hefty runtime so you don't have to do any real work tomorrow!
I'm constantly trying to find ways to branch out and try new things for the blog, and focusing on 787 takes an enormous amount of my time and I don't think you want me just rewriting press releases here as news happens elsewhere for other manufacturers. I try to add something you're not going to see elsewhere, I see no point in trying to duplicate what others have already done. I don't think that's why you come here anyway.
As always, you guys keep me on my toes, which I always appreciate.
Best,
Jon

Jon, You're doing just fine. No need to defend your coverage. Naturally, a number of your anonymous sources are from Flightblogger v.1 days when you focused on the B787. Thanks for being fair and progressive with the blog. Just leave the body shots to MK!

This Blog rules...I don't know of any other that is as innovative. I fully expect Jon to be feeding us live video at some point as a One-Man Mobile Uplink Unit reporter (i.e. Al Franken from the SNL news).

Jon, don't change a thing about how you run this blog. When major news about other programs happens, it get's reported.
Aeroroldy, sorry to see you unhappy with this blog, but I can't imagine why you would ever go back to printed press! This is the best aviation blog out there and Jon does a killer job and most of us here (I hope all of us) love what goes on here. When the a350 get's going, be sure that Jon will report important details when they happen. Believe me... the 787 gear tests ARE a big deal, and if you are a true aviation fan you would love to see every single bit of detail on the program.

I didn't see it posted yet but video is now available on Boeing's website showing the gear swing. Looks great!

Wow, what a chain reaction about my comment...
Maybe a few words would help to get the point:
First, my "deception" was based on the high expectations I have on Jon's job about this blog, I've been following this blog long ago...and I will keep following it, the reference to the "paper press" was just for emphasis...it worked...
Never meaning it's not an excellent job...no way.
Second, I don't really understand the idea of not writing about something important just because somebody else already did it. There is always room to some analysis about the consequences of awarding a thousand of million dollar contract to a particular company. Hey, perhaps it is not in the scope of this blog, my fault.
Last one: 40-87, this is the building of the Boeing Company where I work in Everett.
You can be pretty sure that I love to know every little detail about a program in which I am involved completely. I want to see the 787 flying and not standing in the factory as I see it every time I drop by. I really love this industry...ALL of it
Jon, thanks for your time and sorry about the controversy. You would be surprised to know that sometimes we learn something new about the status of our own projects reading your blog. Keep going!

Does anybody else think that the gear of the 787 looks a little svelte? I know that the composite plane is a little lighter than other planes of a similar size, but it's interesting to see the implication to something like a landing gear.

Jon, Thanks for doing such a good job and keeping us as well informed as you do. It is great that you follow our comments and react to them.
