Boeing Schedules 787 Dreamliner First Flight for Second Quarter 2009; First Delivery for First Quarter 2010
EVERETT, Wash., Dec. 11, 2008 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced an updated schedule for its all-new 787 Dreamliner program that moves the commercial jet's first flight into the second quarter of 2009 and first delivery into the first quarter of 2010. The new schedule reflects the impact of disruption caused by the recent Machinists' strike along with the requirement to replace certain fasteners in early production airplanes.

So they say. There's little chance Boeing will be able to stick with an "abbreviated" flight test programme for the 787, unless first flight means early april 2009 and first delivery is in March 2010.

That's not good.
Is there any possible cancellation in the coming months? If there is some, who will be the first to announce cancellation?

End of 2009Q2!
I read some lady from Boeing mentioning June 2009.
But then that is not realy new information.
And Boeing is sure that there will absolutely ZERO
further problems ahead ( before and after
FirstFlight ).

What are the remaining milestones or major tests until certification?

I find difficult to believe that it is a fastener problem only.
From the beginning of the delays B speaks only of fasteners, a center wing box structure tinkering and an obvious strike, nothing else for a 18 months delay for first flight.

Re: JS
Boeing did mention something about the braking software for the last delay. Perhaps there are other areas where software does not "plug and play".
Maybe there are other things that go wrong, but they are not considered as pacing items yet.

But lg
Do they need a fully assembled aircraft to do their testing?
What about a "software/hardware bird"

The VELOCITY of the 787 is not as good as expected.

Re: JS
Agree on the partial testing. But, in real life versions of software come along very often especially in the beginning of production like on the 787. The hardware and software versions installed on the airplane are not necessarily the ones that have been tested on the test bench.
Here is a blog entry mentioning VELOCITY:
http://rcd.typepad.com/rcd/2007/09/problems-for-bo.html
Boeing needs to calm down and consider doing things the "old way".

By the way, this VELOCITY issue has not been mentioned in the powerpoint document disclosed by Jon recently.
