Ever since Boeing confirmed that the first six 787 test aircraft were no longer assigned to airline customers, I've wondered about what Boeing will paint the five Dreamliners that were supposed to wear the colors of their future customers. The liveries of ANA, Northwest and RAM were to adorn the composite fuselages of ZA002 through ZA006. I asked Boeing yesterday if a decision had been made on the external look of these aircraft for the flight test program. The answer, put simply, was TBD.
With this in mind, I brainstormed a bit and came up with what follows below. What better way to display the 787s than with a visual homage to the seven-series aircraft that came before?
From top to bottom: 787 Dreamliner, Dash 80, 757/767/777/717, 747, 737, 707
(Yes, I know there's no 727 - It was between Dash 80 and 727, and I picked Dash 80.)

The red and white 747 type one and the black and gold 737 type ones get my vote :-)

This is an amazing idea in my book, but unfortunately it'd only appeal to us plane nuts. Boeing is trying so hard to market the 787 in a certain way that I'm confident that if they haven't decided who will get the first six airframes yet, they'll either fly bare or they'll get the same house livery as Dreamliner One.

How about one in USAF Thunderbirds Red-White-Blue, and one in Blue Angels Blue and Gold? Then, LET'S ROLL! e.g. the first 707 roll over Puget Sound during the Boat Races!

Jon,
Great idea. It would be great to see those new 78s painted up in the old Boeing liveries. BTW, the 707 livery you selected, is indeed a very rare bird. If I remember correctly it was only painted on the -121 bird that was first delivered to PA. It even carried the PA registry N708PA! There aren't too many pictures of that baby around! You must have a great collection of pictures to have found that one!
Regards,
Jay

This looks great! If enough of us sign a petition, do you think Boeing will consider it? :)
