Photo of Note: A wingletted Atlantic crossing

AA767WL_900.jpg As I was beginning my Atlantic crossing last night, I was provided a rare sight out my window while cruising at 35000 feet. Off the right wing of our United 777-200ER was a sight that has become familiar to the readers of this blog, but I had yet to see one in person. This Aviation Partners/Boeing wingletted American Airlines 767-300ER was 2000 feet below us as we flew over the eastern coast of Canada. I frantically snapped about 25 pictures of the aircraft as we passed it, but of those photos, this one was the clear winner amongst a batch of blurry shots.

John...nice photo. I have done my fair share of traveling, and never seen this until our last return to the US from London. There below us ( it was almost directly below us in our case) , for about 15 minutes as we gradually passed it, was a similar wide-bodied plane...not sure what it was though. The flight attendant assured me that the crews were probably talking to each other. The thing that left an impression on me was the feeling that you could almost reach out and touch it, yet ...it seemed small, almost like a model airplane. Enjoy London.

just wondering

Cool photo!

leave it 2 u jon. if there is a 1 engine Jumbo jet outhere, you'll c it flying from inside the window of another plane while flying yourself. this is the nicest picture of it jet (i mean , yet) and while in action at altitude. good job. talk about an elusive aircraft. this is one of them. I hope u don't c a wing eating gremlin next time (ha!)

You are one lucky guy Jon. That's a gorgeous shot! The wing flex looks amazing.

beautiful.

lucky shot!! i could never catch planes out my window...seems like you gotta be staring forever to catch one

Seems awfully close!!

Can anyone else confirm? I have heard the 787 first flight has been pushed back to next month due to technical issues.
