I have a soft spot for the blended wing, and Swift Engineering is keeping the dream alive with its cool-looking Killer Bee UAV. Not surprisingly, perhaps, as Swift's chief scientist Mark Page was technical programme manager on McDonnell Douglas' Blended Wing Body. Boeing and NASA continue to work on the BWB, flying the X-48B unmanned demonstrator, but the Killer Bee promises to be quite a different beast:

Isn't it interesting how this technology has exploded over the duration of the Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts. As long as they stay clear of the small arms net, they can operate almost unopposed until effective measures can be found to go against them. Low signatures, potent weapons and sensor packages that really open the box for the operators tucked safely behind ringfenced security in Ohio ~ or wherever.
All this would be just fine if we fully trusted the minds cotrolling the trigger. Not necessarily the operative, but the command and control behind it all. Neatly packaged devastating lethality with 'no risk'. It all leaves me feeling uncomfortable... am I alone in this?
