What does ITT know? Is Ares I crew launch vehicle going to get solid rocket boosters? I am guessing that this is an Exploration Systems Architecture Study trade space reject - this blog post is just a bit of fun I haven't got the time to actually check it
But at least it isn't an EELV, I'm not sure that would be good customer relations even now Michael Griffin is no longer NASA administrator - twice as safe remember!
Go through to the extended portion of this blog post to see a larger version of the portion of the picture above that features the Ares I-like rocket

It's Ares 1 on a Titan rocket. That'll keep those taxpayers busy.

No, that's not an ESAS reject; rather, it looks like liquid first stage (RS-68 or RD-180) and two 3-seg SRBs, and the standard upper stage. Such a vehicle may be able to send Orion direct to TLI...

Why not replace the center body first stage with an 8.4m dia shuttle derrived ET, and eliminate the upperstage completly. No SRB or ET interface redesign. No thermal hot spots due to all those pesky diameter changes shown on this design.

it's (simply) a resized (one-main-engine version) of MY idea of a FAST-SLV first published on my website (and, in the same days, on dozens forums and blogs) in May 12, 2006

an idea, that, FOUR MONTHS LATER, some guys have "invented" again, calling it "Direct"... :(

An idea invented 20 years ago as NLS GM.
Please stop claiming credit for other people work. It sickens me.

Yes indeed. In fact the DIRECT people specifically acknowledge that they took this original NASA conceptual idea and extended upon it. Not "MY IDEA" in other words.
