Ariane launches two satellites

An Ariane 5 ECA successfully launched the Echostar 17 and MSG 3 satellite at 2136 GMT on 5 July from the ELA 3 launch pad at Kourou in French Guiana. With a launch mass of 6100 kilograms the Echostar 17 satellite carries an all Ka band payload to supply internet broadband services to North America from a geostationary orbit with a postion of 107.1 degrees West. The MSG 3 satellite had a launch mass of 2037 kilograms and will be positioned in geostationary orbit at 0 degrees East to provide meteorological data for the European Eumetsat organisation.
