• Hall maps: The maps of the different halls allow users to tap on individual stands and chalets to bring up exhibitor details
  
• Static map: The static map will be updated as soon as the final static plan is released (likely to be a couple of days before the show starts). Tapping on individual aircraft will bring up details specific to that aircraft.
  
• Exhibitors listings: Fully searchable and features tap thrus to the exhibitor's chalet or stand position on the maps
  
• Flying times: We'll update the daily flying display schedule each morning of the show as we receive the final details
  
• Show news: All the latest stories will be piped into the app in full text with photos (where present)
  
• Local and show information: There's a bunch of useful information relating to taxis, show opening times, restaurant suggestions and nightlife
  

In Day 1's issue, FlightBlogger gave a guide to the Boeing 747-8i and Craig Hoyle briefed on the Eurofighter Typhoon's role in the Libyan conflict.

The Day 2 issue led on the Dassault Rafale's display and had Dominic Perry's take on the Eurocopter X3, plus a Solar Impulse piece from Kerry Reals, who authors our blog The Green Wing.

And Day 3 brought a Bombardier CRJ1000 cutaway and Ghim-Lay Yeo's tour of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet cabin, plus a Russian aircraft focus.

Also on offer across the issues were news round-ups, galleries, a NATO AGS cutaway and a spotter's quiz.

We also toured inside the Korean AIr A380, the aircraft that saved the day when it stepped in to perform aerial displays in place of the Airbus A380 flight test aircraft, MSN 004 which suffered a damaged wingtip following an incident in which it "touched a structure" during ground manoeuvres at the Le Bourget Airport.

Read RunwayGirl's blog post where she gives US Airways a ticking off for a number of crimes to passengers including poor IFE and inadequate seat pitch, for which "all the mood lighting in the world isn't going to make any better".

At 5ft 11", she admitted in an earlier post that she's tall for a woman, and you can see how uncomfortable she was from the picture she posted. 

She goes on to say that the airline is "asking for trouble, especially now that travellers are Facebooking and Tweeting every little thing they do/see/feel".

It flew for more than 14 hours, breaking the record held by ZA004 at 12h 30min.

See a fun "rugby" themed safety video by Air New Zealand which might just get passengers (or members of the team) to pay attention to the sometimes dry instructions before a flight.

AirSpace users were quick of the mark to upload images from around the web showing the wreckage and began discussing the developments to the story as it unfolded.

RunwayGirl posted an article about the first iPad IFE system to be formally launched at the Hamburg Interiors show this week. And says "an unidentified international carrier" would be using it on flights from July.

RunwayGirl says: "The system leverages the power, flexibility and quality of the Apple iPad, the most advanced consumer device ever produced".

View an animation of the Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 that crashed on approach to Amsterdam.

It shows the aircraft's autothrottle reduced the thrust to idle early in the approach, after receiving incorrect altitude information from a faulty left-hand radio altimeter, causing the jet to lose airspeed.

Eurocopter joined forces with automotive and design powerhouse Mercedes Benz to launch an interior for its entrepreneurial EC145 customers who work hard and play hard.

And then there's the Design Q and BAE Systems partnership that unveiled striking interior concepts including one where the cargo door opens to reveal an air deck described as the "ultimate living space".

What's Flight Daily News?

Flight Daily News is a daily magazine produced live at major air shows and industry events throughout the year. It's handed out free to show visitors as they arrive at the event and the idea is to be as up to date with current happenings as possible.

To that aim we sometimes produce Flight Evening News - tagline "today's news today" - which is handed out to show visitors as they leave at the end of the day.

What's a digital magazine?

In its basic form a digital magazine can be just an online pdf version of a physical paper mag. However the digital environment does open up the possibilities of enriching the reader's experience through interactive elements on page.

For example, videos, moving graphics, active hyperlinks, all singing all dancing adverts, that kind of stuff ...

What's in today's copy of iFDN?

Now this is the cool part. Our Interactive Flight Daily News is a purpose-built digital publication - not just a flat online pdf.

We've put the interactive potential at the heart of this new format and as such got tonnes of videos and images to accompany Day 1's top stories.

See how Flight saw the world in its last issue of its first year. In the 18th December 1909 issue, a reader, Harold Kelk wrote to the editor questioning the origination of the word "aviation", saying: M. Jules Verne used [the word] in his book "The Clipper of the Clouds ".

"I think 'aviation' a much pleasanter word to use than 'volitation', and its exact meaning quite near enough to the mark to justify its use," he says.
