One was shot from the flightdeck of an Airbus A320 descending to Bhutan's Paro airport, "widely believed to be the most difficult approach in the world" as the runway, at 7,300ft, is surrounded by 18,000ft peaks.

FlightBlogger also posted his photos of Lufthansa's first Boeing 747-8 flying in Everett.

Our Image of the Day blog carried a Lockheed Martin shot (above) of the 11th C-5B aircraft inducted to the C-5M Super Galaxy production line, and on Asian Skies Greg Waldron noted Boeing's dig at the Lockheed Martin F-35 in the title of a Singapore briefing on "the balanced and evolutionary approach to fighter design versus the challenges of fielding a 'revolutionary' design affordably and on schedule

On defence blog The DEW Line, Stephen Trimble noted Northrop's next-generation airliner concept, a response to a NASA request. "It's the first airliner optimised for radar cross section!" wrote Trimble.

"That's one way for airlines to get around slot restrictions at LHR."

Our Image of the Day blog featured a shot of Greek air force Northrop Grumman F-16s, Israeli air force Boeing F-15s and an Israeli Boeing 707 tanker flying in the Middle Eastern nation in November (above) (credit IAF Magazine).

Five Greek F-16s took part in a five-day exercise that included practice dogfights.

FlightBlogger Jon Ostrower continued his unrivalled Boeing Commercial Airplanes coverage, focusing this week on the deal with unions to ensure the 737 Max is made in Seattle.

Aviation safety is the subject of entries from John Croft on his general aviation blog As the Cro(ft) Flies, and from David Learmount on his eponymous blog.

Croft praises the robustness of the Air Tractor after a crash in which the pilot survived and was quoted as saying: "If I'd had been flying anything else, I'd have been dead."

Learmount bemoans the lack of risk awareness among sections of the helicopter community in a blog accompanied by real-time video of a low-altitude accident on an Auckland construction site, in which the chopper was torn in two but from which the pilot walked away, albeit shakily.

In our back-issue archive, Jon "FlightBlogger" Ostrower dug up a 1989 story in which McDonnell Douglas "concedes that, with fuel prices unlikely to rise substantially in the near future, there is 'inadequate motivation' for airlines to gamble on unducted-fan technology".

Asian Skies blogger Greg Waldron sourced from the China Defence Mashup website a photo purportedly of a crashed Chinese UAV.

"To me it looks like the Pterodactyl," he wrote.

In Day 1's issue, FlightBlogger gave a guide to the Boeing 747-8i and Craig Hoyle briefed on the Eurofighter Typhoon's role in the Libyan conflict.

The Day 2 issue led on the Dassault Rafale's display and had Dominic Perry's take on the Eurocopter X3, plus a Solar Impulse piece from Kerry Reals, who authors our blog The Green Wing.

And Day 3 brought a Bombardier CRJ1000 cutaway and Ghim-Lay Yeo's tour of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet cabin, plus a Russian aircraft focus.

We also toured inside the Korean AIr A380, the aircraft that saved the day when it stepped in to perform aerial displays in place of the Airbus A380 flight test aircraft, MSN 004 which suffered a damaged wingtip following an incident in which it "touched a structure" during ground manoeuvres at the Le Bourget Airport.

Read RunwayGirl's blog post where she gives US Airways a ticking off for a number of crimes to passengers including poor IFE and inadequate seat pitch, for which "all the mood lighting in the world isn't going to make any better".

At 5ft 11", she admitted in an earlier post that she's tall for a woman, and you can see how uncomfortable she was from the picture she posted. 

She goes on to say that the airline is "asking for trouble, especially now that travellers are Facebooking and Tweeting every little thing they do/see/feel".

Korean Air has decided to put a duty free shop in its fleet of A380s.

Instead of seats for 13 passengers, it will install a fully functioning shop, selling alcohol and beauty products. Kerry Reals, Flightglobal's deputy news editor and Green Wing blog author questions whether this initiative cancels out all the hard work the industry is putting into reducing aircraft weight to save fuel.

See images of the Air France Airbus A330-200 that crashed into the south Atlantic in 2009 killing everyone onboard.

The pictures include snapshots of the engines, sections of the wing, fuselage and landing gear.

However, there is no immediate indication that the search has located the rear fuselage where the  flight recorders are installed behind the rear pressure bulkhead.

Airframer Boeing published its full-year financial results for 2010 and with Coveritlive, Flightglobal was able to livestream updates from its earnings conference call, along with comments and questions from users with Flightglobal journalists on hand to offer analyses.

Flight International editor Murdo Morrison has published a blog post about the cutaways schedule for 2011. "Our artists Giuseppe Picarella and Tim Hall have a packed schedule, travelling to factories around the world to peer inside the most intimate workings of the latest aircraft programmes."

 See the HondaJet (above) as it performs its first flight from Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C.

Airbus Military's fourth A400M transport made its first sortie from Seville, Spain. Dubbed Grizzly 4, the aircraft will be used mainly for cargo and air-to-air refuelling tests.

And Eurocopter completed four first flights, including the debut sortie of the second prototype EC175 heavy twin civil helicopter being built in a joint venture with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

Read data obtained by FlightBlogger detailing Boeing's historic order backlog for the 787. Author Jon Ostrower says it was based partly on steep discounts driven by now-discarded design and manufacturing assumptions.
