Week on the Web

The Flightglobal team decamped to Geneva's Palexpo to report on EBACE for the iFDN, Flight Evening News and the summing up in the show report in this issue.

The team worked tirelessly to bring you news, blog posts from FlightBlogger, Learmount and As the Cro(ft) Flies, images, and videos of interviews with the movers and shakers of the business aviation community.

You can find all this throughout the pages of the interactive magazine and our dedicated EBACE 2010 page. And see what was being said on twitter by following the show's hashtag.

Eurocopter joined forces with automotive and design powerhouse Mercedes Benz to launch an interior for its entrepreneurial EC145 customers who work hard and play hard.

And then there's the Design Q and BAE Systems partnership that unveiled striking interior concepts including one where the cargo door opens to reveal an air deck described as the "ultimate living space".

Week on the Web (22 December 2009 - 5 January 2010)

There are some great images that were entered into this year's AirSpace's front cover competition, but it was the picture of the Raytheon Sentinel, the RAF's Airborne Stand-Off Radar equipped Bombardier Global Express - departing from RAF Waddington and snapped at an intriguing angle that surprised the Flightglobal judges.

AirSpace user Sunshine Band wins a cash prize and a framed Flight International cover.

Take a look at this other entry in the Sleek Jets category with a football painted on its nose.

During the Christmas holiday we've teed up some year-end stories for you to delight in, ranging from the top ten best images on AirSpace, the top ten best videos and stories through the year, anniversaries, roll-outs, cutaways and first flights, which will, of course, include the Boeing 787, for which we waited with baited breath for two and a half years.

AirSpace user Goose is excited about a home-made aircraft that actually works. See his post about a replica P-51D Mustang made by a retired dentist who used some of his implements to build it.

Stephen Trimble's The DEW Line blog has a great post showing an image of four F-22s flying over the UAE. He posted another image of China Military Aviation's new four-jet freighter and thinks it looks like a cross between a C-130 and the A400M. What do you think?

Week on the Web (29 September 5 October)

Stefan has covered his fourth event since the beginning of September, but were you able to guess #wheresstefan? Correct guesses win a Stefan t-shirt, so follow our elusive friend on Twitter.

See some great images of retro aircraft from AirSpace user Ace79 who went to the Vintage Aircraft Weekend at Paine Field Everett, WA, recently.

And why not add your views to the discussion on the accuracy of Thomson's inflight safety video. One user comments about the airline's marketing video: "You should only be seeing it on the flight after you've already bought your ticket and got on the aircraft - advertising in retrospect?"

See a vlog post on Mary Kirby's Runway Girl blog about the latest in inflight entertainment on a recent visit to Florida to see JetBlue subsidiary LiveTV.

A US Marine Corps pilot suggests in an issue of Joint Forces Quarterly that the age of stealth domination in airpower is over according to the DEW Line blog.

The pilot says the US military and industry needs to launch a crash technology programme. "If anything, the technology could be leveraged to understand the techniques potential adversaries could use to shoot down our stealth aircraft".

Week on the Web 22-28 September

Our #wheresstefan competition on Twitter is well underway with three events in different cities down and more to come. Correct guesses win a Stefan t-shirt so follow our elusive friend (twitter.com/stefanthepilot).

Last week Willie Walsh announced proposals to cut airline emissions by half the 2005 level by 2050.

Users on AirSpace are discussing this and some say they've heard all this before. One user suggests airlines "don't expand, and use hydrogen", another says: " aviation should have been included in Kyoto but it is one polluter among many."

A flying programme to celebrate Birmingham International's 70th anniversary included an autogyro, a military air display and a large number of civil aircraft including an imperial Hercules and an Emirates A380 see more of the event on AirSpace.

You can now buy photos and reprints from Flightglobal's unique 100-year image archive. The Flightglobal Image Store features thousands of historical and modern images, including our extensive technical cutaway drawings and they're available any way you want them, from canvas or jigsaws.

Week on the Web 15-21 September

Have you been getting involved in Stefan the Pilot's guessing game #wheresstefan on Twitter?

If not, it's not too late to win yourself a Stefan-adorned t-shirt.

So far a few of Stefan's followers have guessed correctly Stefan's whereabouts and which events he's been busy attending over the last couple of weeks.

He's gearing up to jet off somewhere new later in the week. Can you out-fox Stefan's cryptic clues?

There's a discussion on AirSpace about acceptable behaviour on an aircraft and how to deal with unruly passengers following news of a court case involving a drunken socialite's racy antics onboard a Kingfisher Airlines flight.

See the pictures on a Runway Girl blog post about IFE handsets. She says: "The picture you see is not the final look of the touch screen handset that will be flying next year. But it gives you a pretty good idea of what's coming down the pike."

Week on the Web (1-7 September)

So many questions arise from a video on the Flight Blog about a low flying fighter jet flying over a man who doesn't seem at all bothered and gives a thumbs up. It can't be real. Can it?

He remains on his feet despite the jet blast. Some say the aircraft's a Mirage, others say a Harrier, and a Super Hornet is another suggestion. Let us know your thoughts.

A Handley Page Victor bomber aptly nicknamed "Teasin' Tina" gave shocked onlookers more than they bargained for when it accidently took off during the Cold War Jets day at Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome.

The Cold War bomber apparently took off as the co-pilot (who was an engineer and not a pilot, cue the "engineers can never be pilots" jokes) accidently hit the throttle when the aircraft was meant to just taxi down the runway for a photo shoot. See footage of the takeoff.

The Flightglobal Image Store launched last week features thousands of historical and modern images, including our extensive technical cutaway drawings with options for potential shoppers to purchase images in their preferred format and style, whether it's on canvas, framed or even as a jigsaw.

Don't forget to follow Stefan on Twitter... He's going to be busy over the next few months. Why not guess where he is from the clues he tweets on his travels. Use the hash tag #wheresstefan and tell him which event he's at and in which city and you could win yourself a limited edition Stefan t-shirt.

Week on the Web

Flight International issue 25-31 August 2009

Be honest, who really takes notice of those safety demonstrations before takeoff?

Charter operator Thomson Airways knows this and has come up with a way to get passengers to sit up and pay attention by using children as cabin crew giving the instructions, which is all very heart-warming and actually very effective.

Check out Kieran Daly's blog post pointing to Boston Globe's 40 "fabulous" aviation pictures.

It's a spectacular selection, including an impressive shot of a hot-air balloon above the clouds in Germany and a helicopter, with tourists onboard, in front of Angel Falls at Canaima National Park.

Read about the Su-27 fighter jet that disappeared behind trees at Poland's Radom air show recently and burst into flames killing both pilots and view a newsclip of its aerial display.

Twitter user, RAFairman uploaded an image showing part of an aircraft and challenged followers to guess its type.

Our very own Stefan the Pilot was the winner guessing correctly that the image was of a Westland Wessex helicopter.

See more of the Wessex, once described by Flight International as the "world's largest VTOL aircraft".

Follow Stefan on Twitter... He's going to be busy over the next few months.

Stefan the Pilot meets Ethiopian Airlines CEO

Time for an update on Stefan the Pilot and his where abouts.

This week he was out in Addis Ababa meeting Ethiopian Airlines boss Girma Wake (right).

For those of you not yet in the know then let me explain ...

Stefan the Pilot is a friend of Flightglobal. He is also suave, fully qualified and ready for action...oh just don't tell him he looks like plastic.

Stefan, in simplest terms, is a representation of a member from one of the distinct communities that visit and interact on Flightglobal.

From analysing you the user, we have been able to create a selection of typical Flightglobal visitors, with a First Officer such as Stefan being one of them.

Having been created, Stefan now spends his time flying around the world, accompanying our award-winning journalists as they straddle the globe to bring you the latest in aviation news.

As he lives and breaths aviation, he also attends all the key aerospace/aviation events and conferences where he gets to meet all kinds of interesting and important people.

On this page we aim to plot Stefan's routes, take pictures of him while he is out on his travels and generally bring you the latest Stefan news.

Got a question for Stefan? Email him ...
