VIDEO: A study in IFE contrasts, Virgin America & US Airways

Mary picture.JPGI was going to call this video blog “The Good and The Ugly” since the difference between Virgin America’s and US Airways’ domestic in-flight offerings is so stark. But US Airways is now working to get up to speed in the world of IFE&C.

As you’ll see, the Star Alliance member has plenty of room to improve (especially on its domestic Boeing 757s). This Pennsylvania girl is hoping it does just that.

The Lumexis solution USAirways is rolling out does not seem to bring connectivity to the plane. So even that solution, while better than nothing, is kind of lame. Why didn’t they take the plunge and reach out for the most comprehensive solution?

    Hi Addison,

US Airways is looking at a number of different offerings, including LiveTV. The Lumexis trial is simply that. Management has said it is keen to bring both connectivity and IFE to passengers so we might see further system trials as time marches on.

I put your question directly to US Airways and it says: “This is a trial and we’re anxious to see what our customers and employees have to say about it.”

I’m hopeful I get a chance to try the Lumexis system. The company is doing things a little differently, which is refreshing. Props to US Airways for going out on a limb with an entirely new system. But a little fire under their bum doesn’t hurt either :)

RG – I just caught this excellent report. But forget about IFE, tell me about IVM (in-video music)… I’d been hoping for years that the mega rockers originally from your area, Live, would plot a reunion. Please tell me it’s so? :-)
