I'd like to give a quick shout out to Virgin America for keeping folks excited about its Aircell-provided Gogo in-flight connectivity service. The carrier has teamed with Google to conduct the first-ever online puzzle challenge to be played simultaneously in the air and on the ground for one day. Here's a live picture from the event.
"Wi-Fi and cloud computing are reinventing how we all travel, play, work and live - with more and more people storing their data online 'in the cloud' with services like Google Apps. Now people can access and share information with friends, family, and co-workers whenever and wherever they have access to the Internet - even on a plane at 35,000 feet," says the carrier.
It's also worth noting that Virgin America is one of two carriers, including Delta Air Lines, whose customers can now acquire a monthly pass for unlimited use of Gogo in-flight for $49.95.
If you're a chronic VA flier - jet setting between the coasts, for example - this is a great deal. If you're a regular Delta flyer, it might also make sense in the near-term. Delta has said it will offer Gogo fleet-wide by September (and then it's on to merger partner Northwest Airlines' fleet). That's if you love your in-flight Wi-Fi as much as we do.
The Gogo web site also indicates that United Airlines will offer the service on select transcon flights this summer.
