UK design firm Priestmangoode is cooking with gas these days. The company has just sealed a deal to redesign aircraft interiors on TAM’s entire fleet, including the Brazilian operator’s forthcoming Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s.
The three-year deal, awarded to Priestmangoode after an international competitive pitch process, includes a redesign of all seats in all classes, galleys, stowages, and lavatories, and cabin architecture where possible.
Priestmangoode will also be involved in the redesign of TAM’s staff uniforms and all in-flight service provision including the meal service.
Meanwhile, as the retrofit process begins, we’ll be able to get a glimpse into what TAM has planned for its 22 A350s, which will be delivered beginning in 2013. And who better to design the A350 interior for TAM than Priestmangoode, which provided launch design concepts for the A350 and the A380 to Airbus?
Priestmangoode’s interiors concepts for the A350 are pictured above. We don’t know what TAM is doing just yet. But wouldn’t it be neat if TAM picked a common area for the A350, like the bar scene?
TAM, meanwhile, is also cooking with gas.
“In contrast to the difficulties faced by many of the world’s major international carriers, TAM is on a steep growth curve and has a clear ambition to assume a position among the world’s leading international airlines and specifically the biggest airline operating out of the Southern Hemisphere,” notes Priestmangoode.
To wit, TAM is slated to join the Star Alliance in April; has been transforming its back-end IT operations under a deal with Amadeus; and will soon become the first company on the continent to offer Airbus/SITA joint venture OnAir’s mobile connectivity service.
The carrier currently offers satellite telephone functionality plus basic text messaging and email through its IFE systems on international aircraft.
