VIDEO: Watching Qantas A380 blow tires via IFE

While viewing – and recording during landing! – live video feed from the tail-mounted camera on a Qantas A380, some passengers got a bit of a shock.

    Since the A380 has this tail mounted camera for the IFE, how long before the video is recorded by the Flight Data Recorder or the Cockpit Voice Recorder, the so-called “Black Box?”

    For that matter, how long before flight deck video is recorded along with flight deck audio? Seems to me the technology has long been there, so it’s just a matter of will, not means.

    Major pilot unions (most specifically ALPA) have long opposed flight deck video. But you’re right – technology is no longer the deterrent to what you propose.

    Mary – interesting comment. So if it isn’t technology, what is exactly the issue that ALPA has? Invasion of privacy?
