Aircell reveals Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi equipage numbers

To use its own phraseology, Aircell is able to push out Gogo-equipped aircraft “like boxes of popcorn”. By the end of the year, the Chicago-headquartered firm will have retrofitted 1,067 aircraft with the in-flight Internet system, an increase of 372 aircraft over year-end 2009. I’ve got a jetliner cabin for you

As engineers consider interiors for new-design aircraft, it’s helpful to take a look at some of the most innovative designs of the past and present as well as concepts that have been mulled for today’s latest generation aircraft, such as the Airbus A380. To do that, I’ve received permission to publish an array of photos from what is perhaps […]

Air Canada IFE and a little case of the nasty

Aerospace and defence consultant G2 Solutions is highlighting a rather funny photo on its web site. Forwarded to G2 by a Montreal-based consultant, the snap speaks for itself.   Air Canada in 2005 awarded a huge contract to Thales to equip its aircraft – including Bombardier CRJ705s and Embraer E-Jets – with the TopSeries platform. I’m sifting through Embraer’s rather rosy annual “20-F” report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and there appears to be some interesting titbits in the filing. For those of you who are overworked, stressed out, or don’t have enough time to think – let alone read this 120-plus page beast – and for the […]

Embraer will not be pressured into next-gen narrowbody development

Embraer is cooking with gas, as they say. The company today reported a 61% increase in fourth quarter net profit on a 77% rise in revenue. A number of factors contributed to these gains. Discussing its results in a conference call this morning, Embraer president and CEO Frederico Fleury Curado said dedicated efforts to address […]
