First JSF protest song?

| | Comments (5) | TrackBacks (0) |

I don’t speak Dutch, German, Norwegian or whatever language is used in this song.

But this appears to be the very first protest song and video produced about the Joint Strike Fighter. It was posted on YouTube last week.

I’m assuming it’s a protest -- as opposed to a tribute -- owing to the big “X” across the picture of the JSF and the rather unhappy tone of the singer, whose musical oeuvre appears inspired by the vocal stylings of a Northern European Twisted Sister.

You be the judge.

Yes, it is dutch, but I'm not sure what they are trying to achieve. If it is a protest song, it is a pretty ineffectual one - simply "singing" the capabilities of the JSF not a protest song does make. At least not for me, but then I guess Bob Dylan was in a league of his own. Or indeed Boudewijn de Groot (Welterusten, mijnheer de president), or with an english translation.

Looks like it's Dutch. And it should be "Northern European Ozzy." Anyone else find it amusing to hear a protest song based on "Paranoid?"

The song comes from the Socialistic Party (left wing, not to be confused with the centre left Partij van de Arbeid - Labour Party). It must be some years old now since in the beginning there is reference to the Dutch Defence Minister Frank de Grave, who was in office between 1998 and 2002. Frank de Grave started the discussions on the replacement of the F-16 by the JSF.

That video needs a Beavis and Butthead opinion....
