This just in from Lockheed Martin:

F-35 prototype AA-1 registered its first Mach 1.05 test point today, passing the milestone flight test event carrying a 5,400lb full weapons load. Full weapons load includes two 2,000lb joint direct attack munitions (JDAMs) and two AIM-120 advanced medium range air to air missiles (AMRAAMs).

Wow. Almost 2 years after a first flight.

Not really a full weapons load. There is no gun in AA-1 (maybe some ballast to meet a trim target), and those aren’t real weapons. They are shapes that match the weight. Of course vibration tests for weapons, weapons clearance and of course all of the other war systems have to be tested out and installed in a production representative jet, like BF-1, AF-1 etc. There are few war systems on AA-1.

But yeah congrats on at least pushing Mach. It was probably pretty smooth.

Nearly 2 years since first flight (15 DEC 2006) and now all of 95 flight test hours are completed out of the 12000 SDD flight hours planned . At this rate the testing will conclude in the year 2260! Seems like the fighter gap is growing again.
