Lockheed Martin partners with EADS on Army helicopter

First, it was Northrop Grumman on KC-X. Then it was Sikorsky on light utility helicopter. Now, it’s Lockheed Martin for the armed scout helicopter. There’s no question about it: EADS North America is making quite a few friends on US soil.


EADS, Lockheed Martin team up for Army helicopter

EADSNorth America (NA) today announced signing Lockheed Martin as theweapons systems integrator for a newly-revealed Armed Scout 645helicopter, a new contender for a major US Army contract.

TheArmed Scout 645 would integrate a weapons and targeting system on theEurocopter EC145 airframe already sold to the army as the UH-72 Lakotalight utility helicopter (LUH).

Thearmy’s two-decade-old search to replace the Bell Helicopter OH-58DKiowa Warrior was re-opened last year. The army terminated a contractwith Bell to supply 522 ARH-72 Arapahos after development costs tripled.
